Full of confidence following their 2-0 Test series and 2-1 T20I series victories over the Proteas on home soil earlier this year, Pakistan wants to do the same in South Africa.
Coach Misbah-ul-Haq’s squad arrived in SA on Friday, with all of their squad members testing negative for Covid-19.
Gearing up for the first ODI against SA at Centurion Park on Friday, Misbah said before their departure for the three-ODI and four-T20I tour to Mzansi: “The T20I series on the upcoming tours will be very important.
“Our objective is not only to win the series but to give all the players chances so they can show us their abilities at the highest level.
“Obviously winning matches will give us confidence which is very important.
“But it is pivotal that we test our bench strength which will give us an idea as to the kind of team we can have for the upcoming T20 World Cup [in India later this year].”
Hosting them will be a Proteas team with a different look to it.
Led by new captain Temba Bavuma after taking over from Quinton de Kock, the Proteas camp also yesterday revealed that none of its squad members tested positive for the coronavirus.
With Bavuma leading the charge in limited overs, SA also have a number of newcomers such as Kyle Verreynne, Wihan Lubbe and Migael Pretorius (T20I squad) and Lizaad Williams and Sisanda Magala (both T20 and ODI) in its squad.
