HUNGRY: Schalk Burger

Stormers co-captain Schalk Burger will be looking to shake off some excess baggage when they host the Chiefs in their Super Rugby quarterfinal at Newlands tomorrow (7pm).

Leaving the Stormers for Saracens at the end of the season, the match might be Schalla’s last at Newlands.

But he certainly doesn’t want it to be his last ever for the franchise.

After 13 years as a Stormer, the 33-year-old has seen his team go down five times in playoff matches without winning a title.

And of exiting the tunnel first in possibly his last outing at the home of Cape rugby, Burger says: “I’m obviously delighted to have another game at Newlands.

“Newlands has been good to me over the years - the spectators, I’ve been a favourite of theirs for a long, long time.

“[And I’m] obviously keen to put in a great performance this weekend, but it’s not about me - it’s about this team and the journey we’ve taken so far this season.

“In history, we haven’t done too well in playoffs, but the only one with baggage there is me.

“The others are young enough and for them it’s all new, so I’m looking forward to this weekend.”

“We’re going to out there and give a blast. That’s the message from us, to give it a go.”
