Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire laughed off talk of a crisis at Old Trafford after a morale-boosting 4-1 win at Newcastle.
Coming into the game 16th in the standings and a 6-1 pak by Tottenham, United looked headed for another disappointing result with the scoreboard reading 1-1 with four minutes of regular time left to play.
But when Bruno Fernandes, who was denied from the spot in the 58th minute and also had a goal disallowed in the 20th minute, placed the ball into the back of the net with the inside of his right boot after being teed up by Marcus Rashford, all hell broke loose.
Three minutes later, Aaron Wan-Bissaka finished off a one-two with Rashford by slamming the ball into the back of the net with a thunderbolt of a strike.
They weren’t done yet and Rashford added his name to the scoresheet in the 96th minute after running on to a lobbed pass from Fernandes and steering the ball home.
Maguire, meanwhile, cancelled out Luke Shaw’s second minute own goal with a 23rd-minute power header.
The skipper says of the result: “It’s funny, three games into the season and it seems like a big crisis. Won two, lost two. There is a long way to go, we have to improve.”
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer adds: “The season started for us [now].
“We have come up to the speed of the game and that showed.
“It’s always important to win. To have criticism is normal in football.
“This is a big club. [This] is the right way to reply to the 6-1 against Tottenham.”
