Ex-Proteas Test spinner Simon Harmer was Wednesday named one of Wisden Cricket’s five Players of the Year.
Harmer, who played the last of his five Tests for the Proteas in 2015, was on fire for his English county Essex this
season.
The Pretoria-born off-spinner took a total of 83 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 18 to finish the County Championship first division as the top wicket-taker.
Harmer wasn’t the only South
African-born player to be recognised, with Klerksdorp boorling and Australia star Marnus Labuschagne also getting recognition for his performances in the Baggy Green.
England seamer Jofra Archer, Aussie yster Pat Cummins and his female compatriot Ellyse Perry are the other winners.
Wisden’s big winner, though, was
England allrounder Ben Stokes, who was named the Leading Cricketer in the world.
