Stormers midfielder Dan du Plessis is ready to take centre stage in the Mother City.
Touted as one of the most talented midfielders in the country by coach John Dobson, the 25-year-old is yet to show fans why he is so highly rated by his mentor.
Injuries have hampered his career at key stages, but with Ruhan Nel out injured and Jamie Roberts having left Cape Town when the coronavirus pandemic brought a halt to sport in March, Du Plessis now has an opportunity to truly show his worth.
Expected to be named alongside Rikus Pretorius in the Stormers’ midfield today for their Super Rugby Unlocked clash against the Lions at Newlands on Saturday, Du Plessis is eyeing a big season – and possibly a Green and Gold call-up, like his famous father Michael back in the day.
Asked if we’ll see the best of him this year, Du Plessis says: “That’s the plan, it’s never the plan to get injured.
“At the moment, I just want to put consistent games together for the Stormers before I start thinking about the Bok squad.”
