Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is looking to join Makhaya Ntini, Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers in winning the South African Cricketer of the Year two times.
Rabada, 22, won the award in 2016 and has been nominated for three other awards - the Test Cricketer of the Year, ODI Cricketer of the Year as well as the Delivery of the Year.
On top of this, he also stands the chance of walking away with the Players’ Player of the Year and Fans’ Cricketer of the Year at the June 2 event.
For the big prize of Cricketer of the Year, Rabada will have to get the better of fellow Proteas Dean Elgar, AB de Villiers, Aiden Markram and Cape Town hero Vernon Philander.
Cricket South Africa’s acting CEO Thabang Moroe says of the nominees: “Our country continues to produce world-class players.
“We only need reflect on the superb way in which Kagiso Rabada, Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar have shone over the past year and who continue to grow alongside established greats like AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander.”
