The Cape Cobras ended Day Two of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Lions at the Wanderers with a 414-run lead.
Having bowled out their hosts for just 104 on Day One, coach Ashwell Prince’s side then scored 529 runs to build a 425-run first-innings lead.
The Lions were on 11/0 in their second knock when bad light stopped play.
Prince, though, will be happy with his batting lineup after both Janneman Malan and David Bedingham got to three figures.
Having resumed their innings on 204/2 yesterday, Malan scored 137 runs and Bedingham 102 before both being removed by ex-Cobras bowler Beuren Hendricks (5/101).
Hendricks fought a lone battle for the hosts as Kyle Verreyne (65), Jason Smith (65) and captain Dane Piedt (57) all scored half centuries to get the Cobras to their massive first innings total.
When play resumes today, former Cobras player and Lions captain Omphile Ramela (4*) and ex-Proteas opener Stephen Cook (7*) will fight to stay in the tie.
