The Cape Cobras batsman will be looking to build a lead as they head into Day Three of their 4-Day Series clash with the Titans.
After bowling their visitors out for 275 in the early morning of yesterday’s Day Two, the Cobras opening batsmen set about laying down the perfect foundation for a big score.
Simon Khomari and Pieter Malan posted 135 for the opening wicket, before Khomari was out after a fluid 77.
Malan and the Proteas’ newest Test cap Zubayr Hamza got the score past 200, but when the former retired hurt with cramp on 95, Hamza followed quickly for 28 with the score on 206/2.
That gave way to some less confident batting against the Titans’ slower bowlers.
Daniel Bedingham and Kyle Verryenne both fell to medium pacer Matthew Arnold for 41 and 17 respectively to reduce the chasers to 266/4.
Jason Smith (9*) and Ferisco Adams (4*) will resume on 299/5 for the Cobras today with a lead of 24 runs with five wickets in hand.
Should Malan recover from cramp before his team’s innings ends, he can carry on batting to guide the lower order.
