The Cape Cobras saw their lead at the top of the 4-Day Series reduced after they were held to a draw by the Knights in Bloemfontein on Monday.
Going into 2019, Ashwell Prince’s manne had a 31-point advantage over second-placed Highveld Lions, but now are only 20 points clear with three rounds left to play in the tournament.
In a high-scoring affair at the Mangaung Oval, with over 1000 runs scored, no result seemed possible on Monday afternoon.
The batsmen were definitely the stars of the show.
In the first innings, the Knights amassed 319 with former Cobras batsman Keegan Petersen piling on 161 runs.
But the Cape side replied with a ton from Daniel Bedingham (112) and a maiden First-Class century for skipper Dane Piedt (114) and Kyle Verreynne and Mthiwekhaya Nabe both scored the 50s in a 470-run total.
And the runs continued to flow for the Knights in the second innings as Petersen reached three figures again with an unbeaten 165.
He and Pite Biljoen (105*) partnered up for 223 runs for the third wicket before the match was called a draw at 360/3.
The Cobras host the Titans at Newlands next Monday in their next assignment.
