Former Proteas star AB de Villiers has announced his intention to rock this year’s Mzansi Super League with a bang on Tuesday night.
The Tshwane Spartans superstar smashed an incredible 93 runs off just 31 balls in a warm-up match against the Jozi Stars to strengthen his appeal as the tournament’s superstar.
One team that will probably not be happy with De Villiers’s magnificent knock is coach Ashwell Prince’s Cape Blitz, who will host De Villiers’s Spartans in the tournament’s opener at Newlands tomorrow night at 7 pm.
Prince’s Blitz has not enjoyed the best preparation for the first game of the tournament, losing to neighbours Paarl Rocks in both their practice matches.
Coach Prince, though, is not disheartened and says: “Obviously people are going to say that we lost both games but from our point of view, the result of these two matches didn’t matter from the outset.
“It was more about the guys using the week to get into the right mindset for [tomorrow].”
