Third-choice Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach is out to prove that he can be South Africa’s the number one No.9.
Starting in only his second match for the Boks in 2019 against Canada at the World Cup, Reinach scored a hattrick of tries in an effort to displace Faf de Klerk and Herschel Jantjies as the national team’s top two picks.
It wasn’t to be. But even at 30, he is not giving up hope.
And after moving from Northampton Saints in England to Montpellier in France, where he will play alongside Bok flyhalf Handre Pollard when the Top 14 kicks off next month, Reinach is looking to make his stem dik.
He tells AFP: “I don’t know what their [the Bok coaching team’s] plans are but I’m planning to bring my best.
“If they want that they can certainly have that.
“The partnership with Polly would go a long way in that.
“The only thing I can do is put my best food forward and… show them I can perform at that level.”
