And while his players were a bit stoutgat in their first Test defeat to Ireland at Newlands last weekend, Coetzee has not taken out the rottang just yet.
Instead, if they fail to put their best foot forward in the second Test against Ireland, the players will feel it in their pockets or might even see their name scratched off his classroom roster.
Heading into tomorrow’s Test at Ellis Park, Coetzee warns his players: “It was unacceptable to concede seven penalties in 22 minutes. They [the players] understand there will be consequences. Conceding penalties which when [they become] sloppy and tired and not sticking to the systems, will definitely hurt them financially or it can cost you your position in the team as well.”
Coetzee, though, says they are starting with a clean slate and adds: “The players have an opportunity to redeem themselves...”.
