Cape Town City are hinting that Bafana Bafana hitman Tokelo Rantie could be ready for this Saturday’s MTN8 final.
Rantie joined City before last month, but was not deemed fit to play.
The 28-year-old was short of match time after a tough season at Turkish club Genclerbirligi, with coach Benni McCarthy waiting for his former Orlando Pirates strike partner to get back to his best.
At the time of signing him, Benni said of Rantie: “He is one of the best strikers that we have in the country and the fact that I have him now, my main priority is to try and get him fit as soon as possible because when he gets going good luck to the rest of the league.
“He is unstoppable at his best and that is what I am going to try and do.
“I think we hit a little bit of a jackpot because he is a player who I am very fond of. He is a former teammate of mine and I know his capabilities when he is at his best.
“He hit a little rough patch and everybody does in life.”
Now City midfielder Roland Putsche reckons Rantie is close to action after lifting the squad in training ahead of the clash with SuperSport United.
He tells Kickoff: “For me competition is one of the biggest topics.
“Now we have [Matthew] Rusike, ‘Shaka’ [Siphelele Mthembu] and Tokelo, so there’s so many options that we have, which makes us unpredictable, and will lift the other players as well.”
