Cape Town City were undone by three Kaizer Chiefs kopskote at Soccer City on Sunday.
The hattrick of headers left birthday boys Amakhosi head and shoulders above their PSL competitors – moving nine points clear of nearest rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
It didn’t take long for the league leaders to assert their superiority and take the lead in the match with Leonardo Castro getting the opener in the 11th minute.
Chiefs got their first strike when Kearyn Bacchus made his way down the the left flank and fired a great cross into the middle.
That’s where Castro had ghosted from his man and met the ball at the near post to glance it past a diving Peter Leeuwenburgh.
Chiefs dominated the match physically and almost doubled their lead through Lebo Manyama, but the ex-City man couldn’t find the back of the net.
City threatened through Kermit Erasmus and Thabo Nodada, before Surprise Ralani forced the best out of Chiefs shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi after his solo run through the hosts’ defence.
City came out after the break determined to make a comeback, but Chiefs drove them into dead ends down the flanks.
And while their attack could have been criticised for having just one trick, Chiefs were the ones who went 2-0 up with an almost identical goal to the first when Samir Nurkovic headed in Dumisani Zuma’s 64th-minute cross.
Three minutes later, they were completely out of sight when Eric "Tower" Mathoho made it 3-0 when he rose highest to nod home George Maluleka’s corner.
