Chelsea boss Frank Lampard added retired club legend Petr Cech to his 25-man Premier League squad, but insists it’s just in case of a Covid-19 emergency.
Blues technical and performance advisor Cech takes up a position as a non-contract player.
Lampard explains his decision, saying: “It depends on how the season goes and on Covid and isolation, but I felt it was a no-brainer to have Pete in the squad for that reason.”
Lampard, though, insists that new signing Edouard Mendy is his No.1 after keeping his second clean sheet in Tuesday night’s goalless Champions League Group E draw with Sevilla.
He adds: “In the three games Mendy has played... he has played very well. So at the moment he is first choice.”
