BIG-MATCH TEMPERAMENT: S'bosch boss Sammy Troughton

The newly-formed club take on top-flight side Baroka FC at Athlone before doing battle with Black Leopards in a three-way tussle for a place among the top South African clubs and a R1.5m-a-month grant.

It could bring the club, established by a merger between University of Stellenbosch and Vasco da Gama last June, an estimated R60m in a PSL campaign.

But while the stakes are high, coach Sammy Troughton hopes that his manne can stay calm.

Ahead of the clash, he says: “Obviously, we are all chuffed to have made it to the playoffs.

"But we have to go into it with a different mindset.

“We have to hit the ground running. There are three teams and there is a huge prize at the end of it.

“For me, the most important thing is to find the right balance. In situations like this it can be desperate stuff.

“But we have to find the balance between enthusiasm and professionalism.

“We can’t go crazy out there. If you get too excited, it can work against you.

“And if you aren’t up to the challenge and the right determination, it can work against you.

“So it’s important that we have the right balance.”

Baroka have their tails up after beating Ajax Cape Town 1-0 in the final game of the season last Saturday to escape automatic relegation.
