Stellenbosch boss Steve Barker slammed his side’s sloppy defensive performance as they gifted Mamelodi Sundowns a 3-0 PSL win on Saturday.
Stellies were behind after just seven minutes when Downs hit them on a counter and Peter Shalulile snuck in between two defenders to nod home the opener from a Kermit Erasmus cross.
After the teams paused on 16 minutes to honour Anele Ngcongca who died in a car crash last week, it got worse for Barker when a mix-up between Nathan Sinkala and Robyn Johannes allowed Shalulile to pounce and feed Erasmus for 2-0 after 26 minutes.
Then on 62 minutes Themba Zwane rolled home after another defensive mix up allowed Downs in. And Barker says his manne must learn from their mistakes.
He says: “If you’re not going to put in a good performance.
“If you give a team like Sundowns a 2-0 advantage in the first 20 minutes, it’s going to be a long evening.
“It’s a hard lesson to learn, but if we don’t it’s our own fault.”
