New Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos will get extra time to make his planne to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar next.
This after Caf and Fifa on Thursday decided to postpone the African qualifiers from next month to September due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A Caf statement reads: “The Caf Emergency Committee, in consultation with Fifa, decided to postpone the Caf qualifiers for the World Cup Qatar 2022 that were due to be played in June 2021 after taking into consideration the current challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the need to ensure the optimal playing conditions for all participating teams.
“The qualifiers will now take place in the existing windows of September, October and November 2021, and March 2022.
“Full details on the updated match schedule will be provided in due course.”
South Africa are set to battle Zimbabwe, Ghana and Ethiopia in Group G.
Meanwhile, Broos’s predecessor, Mofeli Ntseki, and the South African Football Association (Safa) have finally parted ways and the former coach leaves the association after his sacking was officially agreed to yesterday.
It comes a day after the appointment of the Belgian and more than a month after Safa announced his dismissal on March 31, following two years in charge.
Bafana Bafana won four, drew two and lost three of his nine international matches, as they failed to qualify for Afcon 2022.
Ntseki took over from Stuart Baxter in August 2019.
