The Cape Cobras will be looking to finish their 4-Day series on a high at Newlands this week where they’ll host the log-leading Knights from Bloemfontein.
Starting at 10am today, the bottom-placed Cobras will go all out to bag their first and only win of the campaign in their final match.
Coach Ashwell Prince’s side showed signs of improvement last week when they had the Warriors with their backs to the wall in the rained-out clash, but just couldn’t get over the line to break their duck.
With one last shot against coach Allan Donald’s table toppers, Cobras captain Tony de Zorzi is hoping their bowlers can get the better of opposite number Pite van Biljon and his teammates.
While Kyle Verreynne and the batsmen grabbed the headlines last week, it was Akhona “AK” Mnyaka and Tshepo Moreki with three wickets apiece in the Warriors 259/9 reply to the Cobras’ 513/6 declared that impressed their skipper.
And De Zorzi wants more of the same in the match starting today.
He says: “We didn’t have the easier of the bowling conditions – day two and three was a nice time to bat and for our bowlers to put in the performance they did, was a real positive.
“AK [Mnyaka] is young bowler and he bowled into the wind most of his spell. You know what you’re going to get from George [Linde] and Nandre [Buger] - they’re our bankers, but to see guys like Moreki and AK put their hands up was really nice to see and I feel we can carry that momentum into the Knights game as well.”
