Ari Efstathiou

Ajax Cape Town sent a warning to their new Mother City PSL rivals Cape Town City, saying they have nothing to prove.

Ahead of Tuesday’s kickoff of the PSL season, Ari Efstathiou had a message for brother-in-law John Comitis.

Efstathiou says: “We are Ajax Cape Town, we have proved what we have achieved. Most importantly, the world ‘I’ doesn’t belong in Ajax, you can’t see ‘I’ in team, that’s why We Are Ajax Cape Town.

“We have been the premier club of Cape Town for the last 17 years and we will remain the premier Cape Town club. We don’t have to prove anything.”

The Urban Warriors unveiled their new signings at yesterday’s press conference and say they are not done with their transfer business.

Defender Erick Chipeta, striker Joachim Lupeta, Thabo Mosadi, Keoraptse Molete and Roscoe Pietersen were all handed their jerseys.

Coach Roger de Sa is watching over trialists Mark Mayambela and Neo Mekoa.

Mayambela is hoping to turn out for his hometown club after spending most of his career outside of the Cape, making his name at Orlando Pirates.

And he is not the only big-name player that the Urban Warriors could be signing up.

De Sa has been linked to a move for former Mamelodi Sundowns ace Lebohang “Cheeseboy” Mokoena.

It would be a massive departure from the club’s transfer policy. But how else do you send a message?
