There is a new kid on the social media entertainment block and they go by the name of Skarrel Productions by Pung.
They have shot to fame during the lockdown period and their social media page now has close to 50 000 followers.
Skarrel has produced some of the most entertaining content online in recent times and there are still great things ahead.
So let’s leave it to the producer Nizaam Mustapha, aka Pung, to give us the background about Skarrel Productions and the future of the people’s favourite online show.
SHOT TO FAME: Nizaam ‘Pung’ Mustapha, Dino Lewis and John Marthinus of Skarrel Productions
This is what he had to say:
“The team of Skarrel Productions has taken a step into the unknown and has been overwhelmed by all the love and support over the past two months.
“I, Nizaam aka Pung, the producer of Skarrel Productions, always wanted to bring some kind of change to my community or someone’s life for the better.
“I have been self-employed over the years and always had guys coming over my doorstep for odd jobs, guys looking for scrap or wanting a few odds or food, evens just for a cigarette or a skyf, lol.
“I tried to help my community in whatever way I can, even if it was just to put a smile on someone’s face and make them feel special, that their lives mean something to someone.
“I have met so many people over the years within my community and always wanted to bring change in our young people’s lives, for us to have a proud future to look upon.
“If we can all change one life for the better, we are all one step in the right direction.
“Dino Lewis and John Marthinus became part of my family two years back.
“John started working for me first, while Dino was a daily visitor looking for a skyf or odds.
“I asked him eventually to start doing a few odd jobs for me and then I can rather pay him daily for his work done instead of him struggling every day.
“I saw so much potential in Dino, he could grasp on anything I taught him and never a day went by that we had a dull moment.
“We started off making our own short videos for our enjoyment and daily dose of laughter.
“Prior to the lockdown, I uploaded a video on my Facebook page to share the laughter and fun we have with my family and friends.
“We never knew it would spread like wildfire and go viral.
“I then started getting new friend requests and was asked multiple times for more videos and eventually to start a Facebook page.
“As lockdown fast approached we had family over for the last time and my brother-in-law Tanwier mentioned that we need an identity for the Facebook page and he came up with the name ‘Skarrel Productions by Pung’.
“Family has always been the greatest support of this initiative and are always behind the scenes, helping with ideas as we all have our own strengths and weaknesses.
“Skarrel Productions is about our people’s daily lives and struggles, taking in a lot of negativity and turning it to positivity.
“We have always tried to keep our videos clean fun for all families from young to old to enjoy.
“Through these unprecedented times we are all experiencing, we took this opportunity as Skarrel Productions to be the change, a source of love, happiness and laughter to fill each and everyone’s home.
“On Thursday 21 May, we got the worst news ever that Dino got shot.
“We are just so grateful that he is still alive and recovering well.
“Dino and John can’t wait to get back to start with new content.
HAPPINESS: Dino and Nizaam vannie Skarrel Productions
“We have come to learn that there would be haters, but we as Skarrel Productions have accepted it and respect all views and opinions of others.
“Laughter and happiness can be a cure for everything.
I am glad and thankful to the Almighty that Skarrel Productions could be a benefit to the lives of Dino and John and hopefully for many others to come.
“I believe that they have the potential to become one of the biggest social media comedy brands because the content is fresh, relatable and extremely funny.”
With that said, let’s support our local stars who are striving to make a difference in the community and also in each other’s lives.
