I can’t believe that I have been writing about Donald Trump for more than four years, without ever running out of material.
For social commentators, observers and comedians, Trump was the gift that just kept on giving.
I don’t know what we are going to do for content now.
In the meantime, there are still a few final bits and pieces to highlight.
The most important thing is, of course, the fact that Joe Biden is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but he is a whole lot better than a man who ruled with a mix of demagoguery, nationalism and autocracy.
Plainly put, he is a lot more decent than Trump could ever dream to be.
And as a result, people are more likely to forgive his mistakes and shortcomings.
While America searches its soul to understand how it allowed an incompetent narcissist to weaponise online propaganda, the country’s law enforcement is using the very same online tools to catch some of the Washington rioters.
Most of them were so brazen and stupid that they posted videos and pictures of themselves inside America’s Capitol building during the riots.
Others didn’t hide their faces as they cheerily waved at media cameras, stupidly ignorant of the fact that they were committing a crime.
And that is because they believed that they were acting on the orders of Donald Trump and that nothing would happen to them.
On the contrary, dozens of them could spend years in prison.
There now appears to be a slow and painful realisation among a wide spectrum of Trump supporters that the man may have thrown them under the bus.
To rub salt into the wound, several of Trump’s loyal administrators are reportedly struggling to find employment now that their White House stints are over.
As for the man himself, he is back at his luxurious golf resort in Florida for now.
But in two weeks’ time he will be back in the spotlight.
That’s when his second impeachment trial will begin.
In the unlikely event that he is found guilty, he will most likely be barred from running for office again.
And I hear the world breathing a collective sigh of relief.
