En so kom als ook op die ou einde op die lappe.
I’m referring to reports of the Paul Treu incident over the weekend.
For those who haven’t caught up yet, Treu reportedly stormed out of the Stormers’ post-season review meeting last week, apparently claiming that he’s had enough of being treated so poorly.
Now here’s the thing that gets me. Just a few months ago at a press conference, it was Treu that felt the need to squash rumours of a rift among the coaches.
Word on the street was that he and Paul Feeney apparently doesn’t see eye to eye.
At the end of this press conference, Treu just wanted to put it out there that they was “no split or uncertainty in terms of our role as management”.
Now that was in April.
Things have gotten progressively worse since then for the Stormers.
And if he really did flip his lid in this meeting, then I’d like to know why it was he felt it necessary to squash these rumours of a rift earlier on?
In UK soccer, for example, coaches usually don’t hold back their feelings.
And fans can relate to that.
If they are frustrated with results, they will say so.
If a player is not coming to the party, they will say so.
Over here in SA, we like to paint a rosy picture - even when things aren’t going well.
Now it was clear for everyone to see that something wasn’t right at Newlands
Head coach Robbie Fleck was then the man in the firing line.
But Feeney also came out in support of Fleck saying he is the right guy for the job and should be in charge in 2019 as well.
All good again - give the Stormers fans some hope.
But what are you going to do once the results don’t go your way? Backed into a corner, I believe that’s when the knives will come out.
Now I don’t know what happened in that meeting, but I would understand it if the knives came out.
The bottom line is the Stormers are in reverse and it doesn’t look like they will klap a reverse-to-first anytime soon.
Somebody has to take the blame.
And it can’t be just one of the coaches.
The problem starts at the top - as I’ve said before.
What this Treu drama confirms is that all is not well in the camp and there will have to be changes to the coaching staff for next year.
Who exactly will come in and who will leave remains to be seen.
