I was in a conversation with a friend this week who pretty much echoed most people’s sentiments these days.
“The cost of living is so bloody high, that I just don’t know what to do anymore. Just when I think I’ve got a handle on it, there’s another price increase,” he said.
And that was before he knew that petrol will be going up again next week.
I didn’t want to be the cause of him losing his mind over his beer, so I didn’t say anything.
But I feel this guy’s pain. I don’t think there’s been a month this year when I didn’t get an email or SMS about price increases that are above my own inflation-related salary adjustment.
Even the City has acknowledged that times have become so hard now, that they are shelving plans to complete the unfinished bridges on the Foreshore.
How do we know that everyone is feeling it?
Last week Woolies posted its first annual loss in close to 20 years and exactly a year ago, Mr Price also reported a huge drop in sales; that’s how!
Some people I know are making some major life changes, just to be able to afford life.
I’m at the point now where I’m considering getting rid of my car and cycling to work instead.
Because they say a car runs on cash and makes you fat, whereas a bike runs on fat and saves you cash.
