Izak van Zyl came in a hard second last year. We say ‘hard’ because, as Izak says: “I hit the very last cone coming into the stop and that cost me the game.”
Izak says he’s bringing a whole new set-up, including new suspension and a wider body to this event, so “I’ll have to watch those cones!”
He adds: “The format can be very intimidating, especially when you’re up against guys with close times. The temptation is to check the mirror for the other driver, but you can’t lose focus on your track.”

Last year Christopher Long finished third and is aiming for another podium finish in his Mike’s Place Toyota Supra. He says: “It’s going to be tougher, with more guys from upcountry competing, as well as the fact that we now know what to expect from this format and come prepared. We know how to set the ratios, what tyres to bring.”
Chris is gunning for podium because: “The top three qualify automatically for Gymkhana Grid at Carnival City to go up against the internationals.”
Here are what some spectators said about Drift City last year.
Shafeekah Allie: “The conscious effort by the organisers to have everyone entertained, young and old, whether you’re a car enthusiast or not. It was all-encompassing with an atmosphere to match. I cannot wait to be back on Monday, as a supporter and a vendor this time around, hosting Sand Art sessions for young and old.”
Ronelle Beukes: “The most amazing part of this event is that on that day, everyone becomes family. These skillful drivers have a way of showing off their skills and uniting us like never before. I love the smoke, the skills, the adrenalin and so much more.”
Brett van der Schyff: “So exciting... that I forgot the chairs fold when you jump up to see the winner of a run.”
