Royal AM and the Mkhize family is a Mzansi football reality show.
They are just doing what feels right to them.
That you find it shocking and embarrassing is a You problem.
The owners of Royal AM walked onto the pitch with an envelope full of money after the 2-1 win against Maritzburg United this past weekend.
One of the players is seen asking the coach to stop her from “doing it on the pitch”.
So here’s the story, there were bonuses offered for the team to win the game. But MaMkhize and her son thought it best to bring their players their reward post-match on the pitch.
But now this specific player is touched in his studio because he didn’t expect the “surprise” of the money being brought to them cash baba!
He was allowed to say no to the money and ask for it to be paid into his bank account and keep it moving.
Everyone who is part of Royal AM is part of Mkhizes’ colourful world now. There are going to be other stunts bafethu, so it’s like that.
How I chose to look at the whole thing was by applying the glass half empty or full method. There’s money here, the players want it, that’s why they are playing so well, it’s because there’s money being offered as an incentive to win.
Bafethu, these are the same ouens who were at Bloemfontein Celtic with the same coaching staff.
What has changed and made them so good?
Money, nyuku, krone baba!
Mamelodi Sundowns have steadily built themselves up to become the force that they think they are in Africa.
The Motsepe family has spent crazy money to get Sundowns to where they are at right now.
They defended their title last season without breaking a sweat, and people thought that was not enough to give them the Coach of the Year award!
We like sensation here and as a result, we become emotional when making decisions or debating.
More often than not, these emotional decisions are things like Benni McCarthy named the Coach of the Year award because you didn’t expect AmaZulu to live up to what its owners said they wanted them to be.
It’s a You issue! You want sensation when it suits you. When it doesn’t suit you, you want to come cry and criticise.
Let’s not act like we weren’t expecting drama from the Royal AM family when they were bought PSL status.
Instead, I think we must own it because we are also part of the show, whether we like it or not.
The PSL has 32 members and MaMkhize and her son Andile are part of it, so we are all part of their world.
We’ve been here before ouens, new money owners have been bringing their own type of ridiculous to the PSL since it began over 20 years ago.
Gimmicks and overnight fame has been a thing in the league since toeka, but we want to act all types of sturvy when MaMkhize and Chippa Mpengesi do something crazy.
But when Patrice Motsepe does it, it’s okay.
I’m a spectator and a fan, what they do at Royal AM is their business until it affects me directly.
I can’t judge or defend a grown person who didn’t ask for my permission.
If I was one of the people on that payroll, I would make my own bed lekker for the long-term and milk the gravy train for as long as I can.
If it’s illegal money, it’s still not a You problem, it’s their problem when the cops come knocking.
Wena, you were playing and working for an entrepreneur and reality star. Until then, that money is clean my brother and sister. Chow it, it’s being given to you to change your future.
Don’t be emotional about money when you want it.
The Royal AM players now know what Puffy, Mase and the Notorious B.I.G meant when they said “Mo money, mo problems”.
I’m not sure what the PSL will say about the whole thing though.
They have their rules, it’s a PR nightmare because the PSL will have to explain this incident to the corporates and maybe even authorities because that was a lot of cash to be carried around a live matchday, with all the issues we have around bribery and match-fixing.
That’s a PSL issue, not a Me or You issue!
