Following last Thursday’s meeting regarding “Project Restart”, a date has now been agreed for England’s top flight to kick off.
The following statement was released: “Premier League shareholders have agreed to a new provisional restart date for the 2019/20 season of Wednesday June 17, provided that all safety requirements are in place.
“Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal, postponed due to the League Cup final, will now take place on June 17, followed by a full match round beginning on Friday 19 June”.
The full list of kickoff times was also revealed, with weekend games to be played at 10 different time slots from Friday to Monday, as well as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, giving fans the prospect of football every night of the week until the end of the season.
Kickoff slots are at (SA time) 9pm on Friday; 1.30pm, 4pm, 6.30pm and 9pm on Saturdays; 1pm, 3pm, 5.30pm and 8pm on Sundays; 9pm on Mondays, and 7pm and 9pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The FA Cup quarterfinals will also resume, with the Premier League hoping to have the campaign wrapped up by August 2, followed by the FA Cup final scheduled to take place a week later on the weekend of August 8-9. So yeah, it really is all happening.
All the debates regarding champions, relegations, European places will be settled as per normal.
Of course when I say “as per normal” it really ain’t that at all!
Besides the countless changes to the game, and the many players who have openly expressed their unhappiness about getting back on the field, the whole experience is going to be incredibly muted, as will be the idea that Liverpool will have a Premier League title under their belt.
I’m not getting into that whole thing again, we all know they were going to win it.
But this won’t be truly recognised, let’s just say, they’ll be on 18 and a half.
What will be really weird is the idea that canned crowd noise will be played behind the commentary! Something like Fifa on Playstation.
There’ll be someone “mixing it in" as exciting moments are on the verge of happening, when a team is flooding forward the crowd noise will rise hahaha, this is gonna be interesting.
I wonder, whether, as with Playstation, they’ll merge club songs into each other so you get a more “realistic” result?
Either way, it will be a sensory experiment to behold hearing a huge stadium crowd with the backdrop of empty stands. I’m not sure how excited I am about the whole prospect.
Will that change when Chelsea play their first match?
I can’t answer that let me know your thoughts; [email protected]
