Hello good people, not sure about you but for some reason (maybe because I’m just an old codger) I feel properly tired out.
Seems to have been a long year, but from my side anyway, things just ain’t slowing down.
So anyway, I decided to put everything off this weekend past to just sit in my boxers in front of the telly, eating, drinking and watching football… Just to spice it up a bit also stuck on footie bet for a change (kids…don’t gamble) it seemed like an absolute cert… City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern and United all to win, all playing ‘easy’ games.
Of course it never turns out that way. The top three all won by a single (penalty) goal, Chelsea too, with the last one in the 94th minute!
Bayern were 1-0 down against ‘Mainz’ at half-time, but turned it around, so there I was left with one of the worst football dilemmas I’ve had in many years.
I needed Man United to win to complete my accumulator. I mean, the complete Norwich squad is worth about as much as Fred’s underpants!
By the time Cristiano Ronaldo was pulled down and scored to put em’ 1-0 up in the 75th, I was sitting there hating my life.
It was supposed to be a relaxing weekend (and it wasn’t a lot of money), but just the irritation of Man United doing me a disservice really pissed me off.
Anyway, as soon as CR7 scored I immediately cashed-in, only to witness David de Gea make two or three brilliant stops before United somehow scraped the three points.
Norwich really deserved a point at least! The same could be said about Chelsea. Looked magnificent in the opening stages, but so many mistakes, mainly at the back, created the environment for a high scoring, could-go-anyway game.
Unbelievable when you think the Blues had only conceded four goals the WHOLE SEASON before West Ham away a couple of weeks ago and since then have been leaking like a knackered fridge. Can understand it when the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva aren’t directing the line, but they were both playing on Saturday and Chelsea were all over the place?
It was a weird weekend; I was really looking forward to watching ‘Stevie G’ taking his Aston Villa to Liverpool. Kind of waited in anticipation for him to walk out the tunnel to thunderous applause, was hoping to feel some of that some raw emotion…
Was a bit underwhelming to be honest. Yep, most stood up and gave him a good clap, but it was subdued, but I guess getting a result was all that really mattered.
The Reds were of course the better team, but just nicked the win, as did Man City. Hard to see how a penalty separated one of the world’s best teams, at home, against 10-man Wolves?
December is traditionally a dodgy period. Rotation plans are in place squad-wise and you never really know what kind of performance you’re gonna get as the games come thick and fast. Another good reason to not bet!
Anyway, all kicks off again tonight with both Manchester sides in action, there’s football tomorrow and on Thursday Chelsea and Liverpool are at home to complete game week 17!
Stay safe people, do the right thing and get vaxxed…chat next week, byeeee.
