It’s amazing as much as it’s a cliche… a week in football and the headlines that go with it can switch from absolute heartbreaking, coach-sacking, despair, to “Ole’s at the wheel” and everything’s going to be alright!
Well, superficially anyway. I’m not sure how good Manchester United were on Saturday?
Ok, Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani showed their class and it was a clean sheet following the hammering last week, but Tottenham were so bad, Saxon Rovers down the Royal Rd in Maitland probably would have done ‘em four or five nil!
What the hell is going on at Spurs? Like most people I’m a fan of coach Nuno Espirito Santo. I loved what he did at Wolves, but it just wasn’t happening in north London.
Kane and Son (sounds like an old British shoe company) are two of the league’s best, but I can’t remember either of them doing anything in 90 minutes that could be referred to as attacking, let alone shots on goal.
To lose to such an average United side, at home, 3-0, is unacceptable…
Spurs should have been down their throats, given the vulnerability created last week by Liverpool and that’s why I’m not surprised that Nuno got the sack yesterday.
Spurs just seem to be cursed. The stars refuse to align for them.
Meanwhile from the ashes, Mikel Arteta’s immature Arsenal have found some kind of rhythm and momentum, so Tottenham’s main trophy hope, the “We Ended Above Arsenal Cup” seems unlikely now.
The 3-0 win for United was great for the rest of us… keeps Ole in his job, and with it, the unlikely chance of the mighty Reds becoming mighty again under his tenure.
Well, before we get carried away, Manchester City go to Old Trafford on Saturday and it might all swing in the wrong direction again? It’s so hard to predict these types of games, especially following Crystal Palace winning 2-0 AT THE ETIHAD?
It’s madness, how does that happen? Ok, Palace are looking very decent so far under Patrick Vieira, but surely the league favourites can’t be losing like that at home?
That was one of a couple of results that caught the eye on the weekend.
Off the back of the record-breaking demolition at Old Trafford, Liverpool threw away a 2-0 lead at Anfield to a very plucky Brighton.
And Burnley, pulling a 3-1 win over Brentford went against the odds.
Beside the Manchester derby, I can’t wait for West Ham Liverpool. It should be a classic under-the-floodlights thriller!
In-between all that, Champions League football kicks into action tonight and tomorrow, with the predicted top four all in action.
Not that any of you care, but I’ll be at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, , taking in that sweet smell of success ahead of the 5pm kick off against Burnley.
It’s gonna be so weird being inside a full stadium… no masks. Been a long time! The sooner we all get ourselves vaccinated, the sooner we’ll get back to that kind of “normality”! Be safe people, chat next week.
