HELLO my good football people… trust you’re keeping snug as winter approaches!
Look, I try not to mix politics with football… but FFS, sometimes it’s so hard to write about the beautiful game when there’s such serious sh!t going on around the world.
But anyway, briefly, because there’s football related questions involved, here goes. Why are the United States even considered to host the World Cup (football next year, rugby a year later)?
This while they are complicit in massive military action on multiple fronts, are a target for so many countries and groups and are restricting over 40 countries’ citizens from traveling to and from the US.
Why are the tournaments not being cancelled and given to more deserving nations? I mean they’re hosting the Football World Cup in conjunction with Canada and Mexico?
MEXICO, one of the targets for the infamous ICE deportations and as for the ‘Canucks’, they’re in the middle of a massive trade war because of Donald Trump’s tariffs?
As we speak we are in the middle of the Club World Cup which, on the surface appears to be doing increasingly well following a couple of pathetic games in front of pathetic crowds with pathetic Fifa almost giving tickets away to save face. There was no love lost on Saturday evening between Bayern Munich and (Argentina’s) Boca Juniors.
The stadium was pretty full, the crowd was lively and so was the football itself. Definitely not a ‘friendly’ it was full-blooded and when the Germas hit the winner you could see what it meant to them!
So yeah as predicted, it does look like we’ll be treated to increasingly good games as the ‘small’ teams fall away after the group stage.
There seems to be particularly competitive nature between the European and South American sides. Feels like they (South Americans) are out to prove a point and their Western counterparts are taking the bait! Have to make mention of our very own Mamelodi Sundowns. Now don’t get me wrong, the boys went out there and put on a great show.
Heads held high and all that. Despite some basic mistakes (and as we know, top level football is won and lost in detail) they put the sh!ts up Dortmund, going 1-0 up and then again with a few minutes to go pulling back within a goal (4-3).
You have to feel for Ronwen Williams (in goal) who struggled a bit and made a horrible mistake, but they’ll be fired up and confident they can still proceed in the tournament when they take on Fluminense tomorrow night.
Guys while I’m having a bit of a rant, I’m gonna say this… why do we celebrate mediocrity?
Currently, South Africa is showing up on the global stage in rugby, cricket, athletics, MMA and a few other sporting codes… Best in the world!
Why is everyone (Sundowns fans included) going crazy over losing that game? They lost? Yes, as mentioned… boys done well, but let’s be real here, they went into that changing room depressed.
I understand how important positivity and encouragement is, but lets hold our heads higher… Just because we’re playing abroad against a top-flight European side, doesn’t mean we should celebrate a loss. Am I being unfair? Anyyyyyway… cum on the ‘Brazilians’!!
Chat next week… bye byeeee.
