Like most of us, I was really looking forward to the Easter weekend, not that I’m a big pickled fish fan, not sure what all the fuss is about to be honest.
It was more about four days off work and the return of “real” football. And, of course, a straightforward win for Chelsea was on the cards in the early kickoff. I love it like that, you get your result in and then just sit back and see who drops points around you.
But NO… West Brom at home turned out to be a crushing defeat, totally screwed up Easter and left me p!ssed off the whole weekend.
As most of you know, I’m not a “spiritual” type, nor do I believe in the supernatural. But why does it feel like my thoughts or words can have a profound effect on top-flight football matches being played 6000 miles away?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know they don’t. But sometimes I’ll make a comment, or knock a player, or team and next thing they frikkin’ score. So last week, for the first time in donkeys, I had a little boasting moment about how good Chelsea were doing. And… guess what? It all goes pear-shaped.
Thomas Tuchel won Premier League Coach of the Month for March, the Blues are firing on all fronts and then Fat Sam comes to the Bridge and breaks the whole thing down. Yes, Thiago Silva got sent off within the first half-hour, but in those circumstances – and Chelsea are famous for it – the usual response is a concerted extra team effort to negate the loss?
I think the pundits in the Premier League studio forgot the first 40 minutes when Chelsea were excellent.
It wasn’t the “worst they’ve played this season” but the second half WAS shocking. We could have scored four or five, but defensively we were all over the place.
Look, these things pass quickly and the German will no doubt put the sh!ts up some of those who were particularly bad – like Jorginho – but there’s no time to dwell.
I believe it was a ‘blip’ and the response will be strong. And it needs to be as tomorrow night – it’s Champions League quarterfinal time!
As for the social media brigade knocking Tuchel… sort yourselves out FFS, we’re in a strong position for a top-four finish, FA Cup semi and Champions League quarterfinal, what the hell are people complaining about?
Support Arsenal if you wanna moan. In the meantime, two massive European games tonight as Manchester City host Dortmund and Liverpool go to Real Madrid!
It’s a shame as always that the night’s two games kick off at the same time. It must be said that the Scousers looked pretty useful at the Emirates on Saturday, much more like what we’ve been used to over the past couple of years.
Yes, Arsenal were k@k, but Liverpool punished them properly. It’ll give ’em some much needed confidence ahead of their trip to Spain.
I ask ya’ll again; what has Mikel Arteta improved? They’ve gone backwards, surely? Can’t see him there next season.
Oh and can someone explain Alisson Becker’s tash? WTF?
Good people, while we wait and hope that the predicted ‘third wave’ doesn’t materialise, let’s keep doing the right thing, keep ya’ distance, mask up and wash dem handies!
