We all know just how tough it is to be too poor to have the things that we want.
It gets driven home hard at Christmas and the start of the New Year.
There are presents and party goed or that exotic holiday you wanted to go on.
Maybe it’s just getting the kids ready for the next school year.
Whatever it is, it stings.
And if you don’t believe me, ask Jose Mourinho. The Manchester United boss had to watch as his team sukkelled over the busy Christmas period.
All the while their noisy neighbours Manchester City have been flying into 15-point lead on the back of their record-breaking 18 match-winning streak.
And the reason Jose gave for the gap between his second-placed team and the leaders is? You guessed it - money.
It’s rich coming from Jose of all people.
This year he became the first manager in history to have sanctioned a billion pounds in transfers at his various clubs - including splashing out a then-record £90m to add Gareth Bale to an attack that featured Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid and the first £100m footballer when Paul Pogba returned to Old Trafford last season.
He has been accused of buying the league just about everywhere he goes.
And Jose’s favourite person - Arsene Wenger - was not going to let him forget it.
Back when the Special One first came to the Premier League, Wenger’s Arsenal were top dogs and had just beaten Alex Ferguson’s United to the league to become the Invincibles of 2003/4.
But Jose could dip into Roman Abramovich’s pockets and lead Chelsea to a first league title in 50 years.
Jose has always had the boss with the most cash - until now.
Maybe he should just listen to Wenger and “learn to cope” like the rest of the league.
Jurgen Klopp took a moerse gamble this week to make Virgil van Dijk the most expensive defender in history by writing a £75m cheque.
I guess if you can’t beat them, join them.
