Footballers are often portrayed as dumb as a football.
For every Socrates, Johan Cruyff or Mathieu Flamini, you get a Nicklas Bendtner.
But you can’t say the same thing about Manchester United and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku.
After silencing his critics with his goals inside the box against Chelsea last weekend, Lukaku showed he can think outside of the box too.
He proposed the idea that the Premier League do an NBA-style All Star game.
The former Chelsea and Everton ace reckons he wants to see fans vote for the best that the north and the south of the league have to offer and let them face off.
And that got us here in the Daily Voice office excited.
Imagine how awesome it would be to see the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero joining forces with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino in attack for the north.
They would be looking to outgun Harry Kane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eden Hazard from the pride of London.
GOAL MACHINE: Spurs striker Harry Kane
Pulling the strings, you would see Christian Eriksen, Mesut Ozil, Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere and Dele Alli.
Those playmakers would get to strut their stuff against Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba.
The midfield battle would be intense with Fernandinho, Nemanja Matic, N’golo Kante, Moussa Dembele squaring up.
Then we’d see if all-star coaches like Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho or Jurgen Klopp go for three-man defences or four at the back.
With the squads coming down to a popular vote, we can’t really talk about the cohesion of the teams.
GENIUS: Chelsea attacking ace Eden Hazar
There are many different types of players in the league.
And the different formations and systems their coaches play are designed to get the best out of the players – well, that’s how it’s supposed to work.
But I doubt fans really want to see teams have the best defence, but rather each team going toe-to-toe like a basketball game.
It would be awesome if they made a weekend out of it.
What I’d really love to see is the top-eight sides play a mini tournament of five-a-side.
PASS MASTER: City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne
That would really keep the fans entertained with lots of skills and akkeltjies.
And of course the weekend wouldn’t be complete without a freestyle skills competition, a free-kick contest and a crossbar challenge.
But it will be really exciting to see just how these superstars play alongside one another.
So we picked the teams we’d like to see.
