They say alle lekker dinge kom tot 'n einde, eventually.
And what a climax we had this past weekend.
Now if you’re a South African sports fan you probably didn’t enjoy the Cricket World Cup, Afcon or Wimbledon as much as you would have if we had won something.

Teen die tyd weet ons mos nou al that the Proteas were the flop of the tournament, while Bafana had that one great game against Egypt before losing to Nigeria in the quarterfinal.
Neither Raven Klaasen or Kevin Anderson could reach the Wimbledon finals like they did last year, so our interest from a national point of view was klaar op pad OR Tambo toe.
That allowed us to sit back and enjoy the show without the running the risk of disappointment.
And what a show it was.
BEST OF ENEMIES: Ashes rivals England and Oz in World Cup semi. Photo: Paul Childs/Reuters.
It all started on Thursday when we got to see Ashes rivals England and Australia go head to head in the World Cup semis.
The next day we were treated to a one-of-a-kind sporting event, Roger Federer versus Rafa Nadal at Wimbledon.
What a match that turned out to be.
I like both players for what they’ve done for the sport over the past decade or so.
And I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I said I didn’t care who won that match.
I wanted Federer to win. I wanted him to play in the final and I wanted him to win the trophy.
At the age of 37, his time is running out and he knows that Friday’s win over Nadal was probably the last time ever these two greats will square off on the grandest stage of them all.
Their rivalry has been one that has kept the game of tennis alive over the years.
However, that era is now at an end and we are beginning to see a new type of tennis star emerge. Like him or not, Nick Kyrgios is just what the sport needs at the moment.
At a time where legends are saying goodbye and not being challenged, especially at Wimbledon, you need characters in the game.
Kyrgios has it all. He is the clown tennis needs.
Obviously, the strawberry and cream-type purist won’t agree with his John McEnroe-ish behaviour.
But I like it, I like it alot...

The weekend of rivalries was capped off by the biggest game on the SA domestic rugby scene, the north/south derby between Western Province and the Blue Bulls at Newlands.
I was happy to see that the Newlands faithful once again showed the country how to support their team.
While the battle itself wasn’t Federer-Nadal-like, it served up a timely dish of great rivalry to end cap off a weekend that would see a number of sporting events come to an end with a bang.
We still have the Afcon final to look forward to, while the Rugby Championship is starting this week.
But if you’re a hardcore sports fan, this is probably a good time to have a bit of a pre-season and reset the mindset the Rugby World Cup is around the corner.
