SK Warmers will finally enter this year’s Super League A battle this weekend when they travel to False Bay for their first encounter of 2018.
With a number of teams having played four matches already, it’s certainly been a patient wait for new coach Wilbur Kraak and his team.
While they couldn’t have asked for a tougher first-match introduction, Walmers have the chance to make a big impact from the word go.
Bay, coming off their narrow 19-9 defeat to Maties last weekend, will not make it easy for Walmers and will go into this match out to erase the memory of their setback.
Maties, meanwhile, will have a another bye this weekend, with only eight of the 16 teams playing league matches on Saturday.
Apart from Walmers’ maiden adventure this season, there are some other mouthwatering encounters.
In Strand, unbeaten Durbell will look to continue their positive start to the season when they travel to St Georges.
The Luluboys, though, won’t back down from the challenge especially in front of their own fans.
In Milnerton, fans can expect yet another exciting encounter when UniMil host Tygerberg on Saturday.
Coach Isma-Eel Dollie’s hosts have proven over the last two seasons that they can hang with the big dogs.
And they are actually getting closer and closer to biting the so-called bigger teams.
Just last weekend, it was Hamiltons at home that struggled to beat UniMil, winning the match 22-19 in the end.
Traditionally, UniMil would have entered the match against Tygerberg as heavy underdogs, but this year’s Tiere don’t have enough bite.
And with both teams having won just once in three outings, it is UniMil at home who will look to get the edge over their visitors as they chase a top six position, and with that a chance to play in the playoffs for the title.
The final match of the weekend takes place at Brookside.
It’s there where Villager will host Belhar in a battle that could give one of the sides their first win of the season if they don’t draw.
After three defeats on the trot, hosts Villager will be desperate to break their duck this season.
Out to prove they belong in the Super League, claiming the scalp of a Belhar team that is battling at the moment with four defeates from as many games might go a long way in giving the Villager players the confidence they need to play at this level.
While Belhar is already a SLA regular, the same can’t be said about Villager, who have become one of those yo-yo teams in recent years.
This encounter, though, is sure to go a long way in helping whoever comes out on top to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
