The sudden death of Chester Williams on Friday came as a big shock to not only rugby fans, but all of South Africa.
Personally, I felt it big time over this past weekend and believe it will be one of those moments where you remember where you were when you first heard the news.
That’s the impact Chester had on rugby in South Africa.
Not only was he a hero to many on the field of play, but off it as well.
It’s because of Chester that so many of us started playing rugby.
The first coloured player to represent the Springboks at a World Cup, Chester certainly would have had some challenges during those days.
But you could never tell by looking at him.
The embodiment of friendliness, he always had a smile on his face and looked like he was enjoying every minute he had with the oval ball in his hand.
He will go down as one of the icons of rugby in this country.
Rest in peace Black Pearl, you undoubtedly served your purpose on earth in giving hope to millions and showing us how a true professional conducts himself.
