When the All Blacks lined up for the Haka, I knew the Loftus faithful were going to Ole Ole Ole them to a semi-standstill.
My initial reaction was; should we as South Africans not be ashamed of this?
How can you disrespect the Haka and the tradition behind it like that?
And that’s when it hit me.
The All Blacks are the only top-five rugby nation in the world that gets an added few minutes to lay down the challenge ahead of the game.
If you are going to do that in our backyard, you are going to feel unwelcome.
I also believe this rattled the New Zealand players a bit – let’s admit it, they weren’t at their best for much of the clash at Loftus.
So while it wasn’t the prettiest sight, the crowd made no secret of the fact that they are backing the Springboks – the home team.
