The Florida Park faithful turned up in their hordes expecting Tygerberg Rugby Club to stage the upset of the season against Maties last weekend.
Historically, arguably the biggest match on the club season calendar, it wasn’t to be for the men from Ravensmead as their visitors ran out comfortable 49-12 victors in a heated battle in the end.
The match was Tygerberg’s last chance to fight for a top-six spot and they fought hard, but it wasn’t enough as the top six is nou vas.
And it’s now up to Durbell to try and end Maties’ unbeaten run in their final match of the round-robin stage when the two teams lock horns in Durbanville on Saturday.

A win for Durbell will see them move up to third place, while Maties will overtake UCT at the top of the standings if they win the encounter.
Joining those three teams in the top six are False Bay, UniMil and UWC, setting up a mouthwatering knockout tournament at the end of the season.

A look at the bottom of the pile, Primrose are already relegated.
With Vics not playing anymore, only one other team is in danger of the drop. And once again that team is NTK.
Playing fellow “strugglers” Paarl this past weekend, it was clear that even at the bottom of the pile there is a big difference in class between the teams.

Paarl dismantled NTK 63-33, proving that they have what it takes to stay in the top flight.
SK Walmers is the one team that will be busy this week.

And they got their “crazy” end to the season off to a superb start, smashing Villager 71-29 last weekend.
They were expected to have worked harder for their points when they hosted Brackenfell last night, before ending their season with a visit to Bellville where they’ll face UWC on Saturday.
