The big cats of the Super League A will go at it on Saturday at the University of Cape Town where Ikeys will host Tygerberg in the Tiger Cup.
With both teams not having played last weekend, you can expect the claws to be out in this long-standing rivalry.
UCT come into the game not having played a SLA match since beating Milnerton 38-22 in May.
Before their break they were steamrolling opposition teams in the league, only losing their intervarsity match against Stellenbosch.
But with eight games played, they have been sliding down the log standings due to their inactivity and will be looking to regain some momentum off the bat against the Tiere.
The Tiger Cup won’t be the only “derby” this weekend.
In the northern suburbs, a mouthwatering clash awaits fans at Brackenfell Rugby Club where they will cross swords with local rivals Durbell
With both teams having passionate supporters, bragging rights will be up for grabs.
Through the years, Durbell have been the stronger of the two teams and currently being second on the log, they will fancy their chances.
But don’t discard the men who will host them.
Giantkillers over the past two seasons, Brackenfell has become a solid SLA team.
In fact, they have become a team who can compete against the best in the league, as was proven when they narrowly went down to False Bay 38-33 last weekend.
As for Durbell, they will enter the match high on confidence after running wild in their encounter against Paarl, winning that match 73-27.
The only other match of the weekend sees Hamiltons host Primrose, who are currently at the foot of the table.
It doesn’t look good for Primrose in terms of top-flight survival, currently at the foot of the log with only four log points to show for their efforts.
It looks like they will go down again at the end of the season and might be joined by Parow NTK.
Having escaped relegation over the past few seasons, it seems like NTK will have a tough time pulling a Houdini act again this year.
SK Walmers are the latest club to have added to their misery, beating them 35-29 at the Jan Burger Sports Complex last weekend.
The win lifted Walmers to ninth on the log as they chase a top six spot.
