Supersport’s head of production Alvin Naicker recently revealed to the City Press that they have a “similar plan" in mind for the PSL to that of the Premier League when it comes to fake crowd noise.
Music to my ears - pun intended.
Local soccer returns to our TV screens this weekend as the first competitive action since the coronavirus halted sports events in March.
Yes, we had that three-team cricket match, but that was even more of a circus than T20 cricket.
Personally, I didn’t think this was even possible.
Anyway, that match was played in silence - no fans either and also no fake crowd noise.
In cricket it’s not much of a problem really. I reckon crowd noise can be a distraction at times in this game.
Soccer and rugby, though, are different and imagine not having fake crowd noises while a coach in the mould of former Cape Town City boss Benni McCarthy runs around shouting “You musn’t push” at players.
A similar kind of plan sounds, to me, like there will be some difference to the South African viewing experience.
I am interested to see if they will work in the good ol’ vuvuzela to give it the proper PSL experience.
Either way, can’t wait to see live SA action on the telly.
