With most theatres not likely to open their doors until next year, livestream shows are becoming the new normal.
There are new shows popping up every week as the arts is slowly, but surely finding its feet amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
This Women’s Day, comedian and social media influencer Plaasnaar presents a brand-new production titled, Enstranglement, which is a play on Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s “entanglement” catchphrase.

It stars the two women in his life, Jessy Dawl, his current girlfriend, and his ex, Plaasnooi.
The show, on Sunday, 9 August, is said to be full of anecdotes and surprises as the ladies take comical jabs at Plaasnaar, who becomes the target of ridicule on their special day.
I have worked with Plaasnaar recently and besides him being a social media fundi, he is also a comedy genius, but more importantly, hy kan ‘n joke vat and this quality will most definitely be tested this coming Sunday when Enstranglement is streamed live for the first time.
Plaasnaar might have shot to fame when he wiped his mouth with a roti, but hy is glad nie dom gekom nie and his creativity speaks volumes to this statement because in less than a month since the last show he produced, he’s back with something completely different.
Plaasnaar says: “Enstranglement is a satirical comedy sketch of how my new-found love, Jessy Dawl, and Plaasnooi come together to share the funny story of how they know Plaasnaar and want to kind of strangle him mostly.
“It’s a deeper look into living with stupidity, and women finding strength together instead of tearing each other down in competition for the love and attention of a man, and the madness of everyday relationships.
“It’s laughing at our pain and finding humour in the most painful things in life.”
Asked how he feels about working with the ladies, Plaasnaar responds with a quirky smile: “It’s very confusing and also made me realise how little understanding I have of the workings of a woman’s head.”
Jessy is also excited about the production, saying: “Plaasnaar is genuig om grappe van almal en alles te maak, hy vind als snaaks so dit gaan fun wees om so bietjie van hom gaai te maak.
“Ek dink dis ‘n goeie geskenk vir my op Women’s Day”.
Plaasnooi says: “Die beste ding wat ons as vroumense in vandag se lewe kan doen is om met mekaar te staan so om vir Plaasnaar te strangle met Jessy se hulp op Women’s Day, al is dit net met ‘n grap of twee of tien, is waarna ek uitsien.
“I think it’s brave what Plaasnaar is doing, basically allowing the two women closest to him - past and present - to roast him takes a lot of courage, but sy nerves moet kla wies.
Toe ek Plaasnaar vra wat kan die mense expect vannie show, he said: “The drama and frustrations of living with a joke waiting to happen.”
With that said, it has been tough the past few months for artists across the board, be it locally or internationally, so it is very important to support our local artists and producers while they are finding their feet in an industry that has done a complete shift from stage to streaming.
The only way we can overcome the financial damage the pandemic has caused artists is through your support.
So do make an effort to go out and book your seat, or as it’s called nowadays your link, on www.plaasnaar.co.za and support our local brands.
