New awards for top Mzansi footballers

The South African Football Journalists’ Association (Safja) has announced the launch of the first annual awards.

The Safja Awards acknowledges and celebrates male and female footballers as well as football journalists for their efforts at the end of each domestic season.

The inaugural ceremony will take place in September 2020, beginning with the Safja Women’s Footballer of the Season.

Andile Dlamini of Mamelodi Sundowns, Bongeka Gamede (left, University of the Western Cape), Hilda Magaia from the Tshwane University of Technology, Banyana Banyana legend Noko Matlou from First Touch Ladies Academy and ex-Sundowns star Rhoda Mulaudzi make the list of the top five finalists.

The announcements for the shortlist for the Safja Male Footballer of the Year and Journalist of the Year awards will follow.
