It's an interesting thing, this talk about taking responsibility on the roads. Especially when it comes to rush hour, or any frustration-causing traffic situation. Bobby Nitro notices how even he gets irate and grumpy just because he has to wait in a hot car going nowhere for a while.
That’s all well and good, but the problem is that when we, as humans, get all riled up about something, our clear-thinking brains tend to shut down. In other words, the more emotional we get, the less we are able to think.
Now when you’re watching a movie, that’s OK, but when you’re driving a car, it’s just not. If you are angry you are more likely to do something stupid. Learning how to stay cool and calm behind the wheel can actually make the roads a safer place to be both for you and others.
Get prepared. Next time you hit traffic, put some chilled tunes on, sit back and think of a cool drink and a swimming pool, or whatever thoughts get you calmer.
Distract yourself from frustrating thoughts of wishing the jam were somehow else, and accept that you’ll be longer on the road.
Pull over and call the appointment, telling them you’ll be late. Let. It. Go.
Calmer drivers mean safer roads. The change begins with you.
