With the festive season almost upon us, and the liquor stores stocking up for that Xmas rush, perhaps it’s just the right time to talk through some of the ways in which we can celebrate yet still be sensible, and survive to tell the story.
Alcohol and roads are like oil and water, they don’t mix. Whether it’s in a car, on a bike or on foot, when you bring a drunk human and a road together, the chances of dying or being seriously injured are increased dramatically. So much so, in fact, that it’s best to just stay clear.
So, when the festivities begin, make sure you have got a plan B, whether that be catching a taxi, or just staying put where you are till you sober up completely. Even if it means sleeping over.
Rather that than a life-changing event that could easily hurt other people too.
And yes, we are our brother’s keepers, so if you see a friend who is about to make a bad decision about transport, don’t be shy, step in and let him know it’s not worth it.
Rather sit him down, kuier lekker, and make another plan to get home.
