There's something quite awesome about a slammed ride displayed indoors, so when Bobby heard about club Stay Hungry’s event called Stay Slammed, and the fact that it was going down indoors, he had to know a bit more.
It’s got something to do with comparing the line of the front bumper with the straight parallel of a flat floor that brings out the lines even more.
That way you get to scrutinise the fit, tuck and overall stance much better, without distraction.
Stay Slammed was staged at Ravensmead High last weekend, using the hall and exterior to display a wicked selection of - mainly gedropte- vehicles.
Bobby spoke to Fabian Edwards, part of the organisating crew, after the show. He says: “Stay Hungry is a group of young adults from across the Cape with two things in common: our passion for our cars and commitment to supporting the community. We all have our day jobs so this is basically just a part-time thing to keep us busy.”

All you have to do to be a member is maintain an all-around neat car and drop it some. Whether it’s coilovers, lowered suspension or bagged, anything that “can bring something fresh and unique to the car scene”.
Fabian says: “Stay Slammed just to show the younger generation that there’s more to do than gangsterism and drugs. The passion and time guys put into their cars make it all worth it. One of our guys came up with the idea and we said, why don’t we invite few car crews and host an event, and it turned out to be the best idea ever.”

Joe Klein, the MC at the show, says: “The focus was mostly on the stance side of the scene. They had a special indoor parking for the low cars, something totally different and dust-free. I thank the organisers for inviting me and having me as a guest at their first event.”
Fabian, who like many watched Fast and Furious and never looked back, has walked a road of his own, saying: “I used to be on my own first before starting the crew, and I decided that every year I would get a new project to work on. In 2016 it was a stock standard Honda Civic old spec, which I turned into a new spec. Colour went from white to candy red, rims fitted with 165/45/15 Nankangs for that stretched look and I bagged it at Capeflow customs.”

Last year he turned his creativity to a Mini Cooper convertible, respraying it black, changing rims and fitting air-suspension up front and Q-beams at rear, with Slamworx doing the workmanship.
He adds: “This year I decided to go a bit bigger with a BMW 116i, getting a sunroof fitted, sound system, rolling on 18-inch rims with slightly lowered suspension a bit.”
For Fabian, what made all the effort worth it was “seeing how a huge success the day turned out to be, with so many petrolkoppe coming together at one place, and even the community getting involved by bringing the kids to enjoy the day with family”.
ICONIC: Zuheir Mowlana's bagged Toyota Quantum grabbed 2 awards. Photo: Joe Klein
Zuheir Mowlana, of the iconic bagged Quantum, snapped up Best of Show and Best Boot Display, which he seems to do regularly. Other mentions are Warren Beyleveld with his bagged red Honda Accord, Leeanco Saville’s Escort, and Sabri Abrahams who won Limbo king on coilovers. Club displays were Team Nissan in first place, Opel Squad in second and Team Honda third.
“The vibe was just crazy and we received many appreciative good comments from people.”
