Women's Month brought a sense of outrage at the violence against women, and even a sense of hope as many of us got together to protest and declare “no more!”
Bobby Nitro spoke to Alvina Spike of Tafelsig after a march for women and children she and her organisation, New Creations Outreach, organised in Woodlands.
Community car organisation SPIN was there as well.
Alvina says: “I am a victim of sexual abuse, which started when I was 15. I was a drug addict and also pregnant as a teenager. Nobody was there to help me, but now by the grace of God I am able to help and be a leader in the community.”
The Break the Silence project initiated by New Creations Outreach offers hands-on support to women. Alvina says: “For instance, there is a case now of a mother being abused by her tik monster son. We will help her make a case, we will speak to her boss at work to arrange time for her, and we will find support for the mom in her community.”
