We all know the story, the one where we say “it will never happen to me.” Until it does.
This is especially true when it comes to drinking and driving, and our ignorance of the fact that they just don’t mix.
It’s not really ignorance, more like we can tend to pay lip service to drive sober, and many people drive drunk never really believing it makes them more likely to be involved in a crash. This illusion needs to stop, for the sake of the innocents who get killed.
In addition, many believe they will not crash as they have gotten away with drinking and driving before.
Some even believe they drive more carefully under the influence, or that the risk is less when they drive short distances. All these excuses, no matter how ‘reasonable’ will always remain excuses.
Failure to plan ahead is a chief reason a person will get behind the wheel when they really shouldn’t.
Problem is, other people pay the price, like unwary pedestrians or a carload of kids. It’s past time we, as a culture, made a changes. A culture of no tolerance for drunk driving is what we need. The change begins with you.
