A recent survey asked people about their view on drunk walking, specifically why it was such a common occurrence, and especially in rural areas.
People gave reasons as to why it happens, including the fact that taverns were close to home, that taxis were reluctant to transport drunk passengers, and not having the fare left over after spending all the cash on dop. Another, admittedly odd, reason, is that pedestrians have unconditional right of way.
Now, although these may seem like proper reasons for drunk walking, they are certainly not excuses. And, when it comes down to it, any and all reasons go out the window when a drunk walker and a car come into contact. When that happens, the pedestrian always comes off second best, and often dead.
Therefore, it is better to find good reasons to not walk under the influence, and figure out ways to get home safely.
