Nice thing about being a petrolkop is that, no matter your age, every now and again you get to feel like a kid in a candy shop at a carnival, nogal. The excitement is so intense that it’s difficult to know where to go first.
That’s exactly how you’ll feel when you rock up at GrandWest this weekend for the second edition of the gargantuan Cape Town Motor Show. Bobby’s getting hoendervleis just thinking about it.
That’s why Bobby’s giving you the lowdown on what simply cannot be missed at this year’s event, which spans the length and breadth of GrandWest, is run in partnership with the City of Cape Town from 2-4 March, and is set to rival international equivalents.
From amazing giveaways to spectacular displays and extreme activities, here are just some of the many reasons you should be there. All this is aside from getting up close and personal with new models, rad bikes, 4X4 heaven, drift mayhem, muscle cars, Harleys, kwaai customs, hot-rods, sound-off, car wraps and mutant desert vehicles.
First off, the brand new Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells area showcases the good (bad?) old days of Rock ‘* Roll. We’re talking axe throwing, classic cars, café racers, metal shaping by Anvl Kraft, clothing, tattoos, barbers, plus a Kissing Booth raising money for dog shelters.
Then, XS Promotions brings a professional Drifting Experience that puts you trackside for some serious sideways action all weekend, with the option to ride shotgun for a price.
For the more technically minded, the Wildebeest 4X4 track will host 4x4 tracks built for all classes of vehicles to challenge technical skills as well as the different vehicle capabilities. Static display includes showroom floor models as well as the more extreme 4X4s.
For those feeling lucky (no, not at the tables) there’s a beautiful custom-built ’70s Ford Model Truck up for raffle. WFI Auto Detailing added the finishing touches to the truck that is a blend of old school muscle with modern trimmings. VIP ticket holders get automatic entry. The draw for the winner will be on the Sunday and you have to be at the show on the day to take it home if you win.
The Grand Arena will host the best of the best of the top manufacturers and dealers, while the Nostalgia Hall takes you back in time to place you among the most rare and unique vehicles in the world. Not only will the restored vehicles be on display, but also the secret products that make the restoration possible.
By the way, you can win an all-new Kawasaki Ninja 300. Slam dunk. CTMS, in conjunction with Mike Hopkins Motorcycles, will be sorting this amazing prize.
It just gets better and better.
Then for a totally immersive experience, Jaguar Land Rover will be showca-
sing their Two Icons Tour. This exhilarating experience will give guests an opportunity to experience Jaguar’s Art of Performance Tour and Land Rover’s Above and Beyond Tour, like never before, in one location.
Then there’s the Chill Zone to put your feet up, grab a cold one and enjoy top local acts.
The VIP Experience adds a luxury setting with fine food and drinks, CTMS apparel, a drifting ticket, 4x4 ride, the Ford Model Truck and Kawasaki Ninja entry, plus a discount on a waterless car wash by MobeeWash. There’ll be some comedians and other celebrity folk to make small talk with.
And that’s just the selection, Bobby, who can hardly wait for the day himself, has kept some goodies under wraps. It’s a no-brainer as they say.
Need we say more?
