The Elite All Star Entertainers are the official winners of Super League Section 2 of the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Assosiasie’s 2018 carnival competition.
This is all thanks to the hard work by the team’s directors, coaches, choirs and singers.
I have often heard the expression that in order to win the carnival you have to be consistent.
This is exactly what the Elite All Stars have done.
From day one they gave it their all, played every single day of the carnival, and gave top notch performances week after week.
They dominated the last day with their Group Song, taking first prize.
For a team that is only two years old, the Elite All Stars has matured in leaps and bounds since last season.
This is mostly due to the perseve- rance, the will to win and their passion for klops, which I think the top All Star, Mr. Waleed Hendricks, embodies.
Slamat, meneer, your win is well deserved and may the All Stars continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
One cannot speak about the All Stars win without mentioning one of its biggest assets, Tariq Blignaut, who is the team’s Comic and Group Song coach.
Tariq is a seasoned performer and this year he came to the party with all of his gags.
He delighted with his English Moppie, which was performed by Tashreeq de Villiers, and was rewarded by the judges with a well-deserved first prize; and followed that up with a first prize for Group Song. Well done!
The runners-up are the District 6 Entertainers, who also had a kwaai season and deserve their second place.
The mighty D6 held on tightly to their English Combine bragging rights, a section they have dominated and won for the past three years.
Coach Ziyaad Hattas made quite an impact with his beautiful English Combine, and also walked away with the Grand March Pass first prize.
Between Hattas and Blignaut, it’s a toss-up for MVP of the season.
District Six Entertainers also won the Klopse Jol, an item that rightfully belongs to Mundhir Challa McKriel.
McKriel is a master at creating pad numbers (songs which bands play on the road) that makes a klops hop.
I also wish to congratulate the Ken- sington All Stars on their performance throughout the carnival. I loved watching this team this season.
It was the first year that I saw them in action and, boy, did they prove just why they are one of the groot menere and they are by no means to be taken for granted.
They played hard and played to win every single item and I just love this about them.
They are the kind of team that will punish you if you slip up, as they did in the Best Band category.
The Kensington All Stars have a superstar in their arsenal in the form of their singing coach Raeez Domingo. This guy is destined to still do a lot of winning, mark my words.
Last, but not least, are the Xtreme Minstrels, the team that performed my favourite Juvenile Sentimental, and ended up third.
You were brilliant, Xtremely good and you blessed this carnival with the biggest new find of the season in the form of your Senior Sentimental, who I am sure after his first prize win, will soon become a name lekkertjie in klopse circles.
Congrats to Lizl Gaffley and the Kenmere Choir for winning the Juvenile Combine, proving once again why they are the top school choir in the country.
